Android phones are scary, really scary but not for the reasons that most people think. “Android” is a decidedly “unuser” friendly name, but the name is just the tip of the iceberg.
So what is an android phone, well as Wikipedia so succinctly puts it “Android is an operating system for mobile devices such as cellular phones, tablet computers and netbooks. Android is developed by Google and is based upon the Linux kernel and GNU software.” Seems harmless enough right?
I don’t think so. The problem is that what the manufacturers of these smart phones, be they, Apple, Google or Microsoft or whoever, they have got one objective in mind and that is to sell as many of these things as they possibly can. And to sell as many as they can they need to make them more and more useful. I was watching a TV programme on the news the other day and they were saying that the new Microsoft smartphone offers 250, 000 different applications. I worked it out, that means if you were to use 10 new applications a day it would take you 68 years to use them all. A bit crazy isn’t it? Yes, but are these devices useful? I’m sure they are, some of them anyway to some people. And they are getting more and more useful because they have more and more functionalities. But to offer up all these functionalities what’s happening?
Smart Phone Dangers
Well for one thing we are getting more and more cell phone towers and for another the wireless technology being used is getting more and more high powered. Most of these smart phones currently use 3G technology which means 3rd generation of cellular wireless standards which gave us multi media support.
Given that 3G cannot serve these new smart phones and the increasing demand they put on the network the next step is 4G, 4th generation cell phone technology. 4G offers mobile ultra-broadband, gigabit speed access and multi-carrier transmission. That’s to say the user can do all he want’s to on it, download games and films to his hearts content. But this also means more radiation for me and you. It means more cell tower sites, more antennas, more base stations.
Is this what we really want? Is this what we really need? It leads me to wonder, where is this going? Click here to see my cell phone radiation protection tips.
