This research paper reviews 42 studies of occupational exposure to electric and magnetic fields and neurodegenerative diseases. The reports authors concluded that there was a “moderately increased risk” for Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
The reports authors argue that, “Our results do not support MF (magnetic fields) as the explanation for observed associations”. This conservative interpretation of the results is not surprising. The study was indirectly funded by the electrical utility industry and the reports author is an employee of EPRI, a nonprofit organization funded by the electrical utility industry.
