What Your Doctor Needs To Know About Electrical Sensitivity – Free Printout

A few days ago I received this message from one of my readers:

“I’ve noticed on ElectricSense that people are requesting something to help them explain electrical sensitivity to others. At the request of my doctor, I put together a 2-page document (as he said, so it could be printed front and back). He’s already handing it out to others in his practice like me, and I’ve also shared it with friends and family who have found the explanations and format helpful. I do not have a website with which to share this more widely.

What I would like to do is to make this resource available to whoever would want to download and use it, as long as everyone was able to do this for free. Diane”

Below is an extract of the 2 page document that Diane has so kindly prepared:

“Electrical Sensitivity – Illness and Recovery

What is electrical sensitivity (ES)? Erica Mallery-Blythe, MD, describes ES as “an awareness and/or adverse symptomatology in response to …electromagnetic fields.” [1]

What are electromagnetic fields (EMFs)? EMFs are fields of force created when charged particles, such as electrons, are accelerated. Naturally-occurring EMFs make life on earth possible. People and animals have energy fields. Manmade EMFs at higher energy levels have increased rapidly.
Like other substances, EMFs are potential stressors. The effects can be beneficial (as when EMFs can stimulate bone healing), benign (not perceived), or harmful. EMF stressors can be 24/7 (e.g., from pulsed smart meter transmissions), intermittent (e.g., from cell phone use), or rare.

What are the symptoms of ES? People report neurological (brain), cardiological (heart), endocrine (hormone) and/or gastrointestinal (gut) symptoms. “Health effects associated with exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields include: Brain tumours, Headaches, Nausea, Depression, Sleep difficulties, Concentration problems, Memory loss, Tinnitus.”[2] Negative EMF health effects can range from minimal to profound.

How do ES persons recover? ES symptoms can go away in consistently low-EMF home environments plus other measures.[3]. Electrically sensitive people:
• Measure to locate EMF sources and monitor exposures.
• Eliminate or avoid EMF triggers. Eg: replace smart meters with analog meters; replace clock
radios with battery-operated clocks; replace cfl with incandescent bulbs; turn wifi and Blue Tooth
to off.
• Protect from nearby EMFs that can’t be eliminated or avoided. Eg: shield one’s property or body,
and filter or block EMF sources.
• Strengthen to become more resilient. Examples: practice prayer, meditation, stress reduction,
yoga, etc.; work with medical practitioners trained in energy-related healing; healthy habits.
Caution: People with ES who reverse their ES symptoms in a low-EMF environment still have ES. Continued attention to maintaining a low-EMF environment is advised.

What does science say about ES? EMF health concerns relate to radio frequency radiation, dirty electricity, and magnetic fields.

EMF health concerns are not new – e.g., Robert O. Becker, MD’s 1985 book, The Body Electric.

While a current Wikipedia article says there is “no scientific basis” for ES, the article cites only a few older studies, and its neutrality is disputed (3/16) [4]. By 2005, the World Health Organization (WHO) had concluded that ES “symptoms are certainly real” and “can be…disabling”[5].

WHO in 2011 classified “radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B), based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer….”[6]

Bioinitiative 2012 Report concludes from more than 1800 studies that EMF “bioeffects are clearly established.”[7] These bioeffects include DNA damage, carcinogenicity, infertility, increased vulnerability in children, and fetal/neonatal risks, among others. 27 medical doctors, PhDs and scientists contributed to the nonprofit’s report. The adverse bioeffects occur below guideline-recognized levels.

In 2013 the American Academy of Environmental Medicine asked the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to “recognize non-thermal effects of RF exposure…and lower limits of RF exposure to protect the public from the adverse health effects of radiofrequency emissions.”[8]

In 2015, 220 scientists in an International Electromagnetic Field Scientist Appeal asked the United Nations to “address the emerging public health crisis related to cell phones, wireless devices, wireless utility meters and wireless infrastructure in neighborhoods.” [9]

RFR exposures in children have increased a billion billion (quintillian) times in one generation.

Magnetic fields occur whenever electricity flows. Sources included power lines, electrical wiring and cords, computers, TVs, monitors and motors in both small and large electric appliances.

Dirty Electricity (also called HFVT) results when electronic devices convert electric alternating (AC) power to direct (DC) power. It interrupts electrical current flow along electrical wiring, outlets and electronic devices. HFVT reported health effects include increased cancer risks.[10] Electronic devices creating dirty electricity include computers, printers, phone chargers, low voltage lighting, dimmer switches, compact fluorescent light (cfl) bulbs, digital meters, and smart meters.

Radio frequency radiation (RFR) fields radiate outward in a pulsating pattern. The technologies that use RFR include wifi, cell phones, remote (cordless, DECT) phones, satellite TVs, microwave appliances and transmitters (cell towers and antennas), Blue Tooth, radar, smart meters and “smart appliances.”

RFR is “non-ionizing” (meaning energy excites electrons but doesn’t remove them from a molecule or atom). The FCC limits only “ionizing” (heat-producing, cell-damaging) radiation. However, sufficient exposure to non-ionizing radiation (a matter of frequency, duration and intensity) may trigger an immune or other response (see bioeffects, above). Non-ionizing radiation-producing devices are not required to be shielded. Ionizing radiation damage is cumulative. Is non-ionizing radiation damage also cumulative?

Thanks again to everybody who is contributing to the understanding of EHS!!
There is an interesting article on Docteur Belpomme (ARTAC in France) about electrohypersensitivity. You can find the article and translation on “mieuxprevenir.blogspot.com”. Meris runs this website and she is well informed and has some good articles on EMFs.

  • Lloyd Burrell said,

I also covered Dr Belpommes work here https://www.electricsense.com/2672/electrosensitivity-a-physical-illness-that-can-be-diagnosed/

  • Paul Howson said,

With the interviews you do, would it be possible to record these and make them available as archives which can be downloaded and listened to later (audio only is easier to find time for). Living overseas it’s not possible for me to be online for the actual webinar.
    Thanks, Paul Howson

  • Lloyd Burrell said,

The interviews have been recorded Paul – I hope to make them available shortly.

Good stuff. For people in the UK, and possibly elsewhere, I’d also recommend the folded A4 leaflet produced by Electrosensitivity UK to hand out to people who may have an interest or may be at risk, such as medical practitioners, people exposed to high EMF levels at work or home, and so on.

They also have an open letter from a GP, Andrew Tressider, aimed at informing the medical community about this little-understood condition, as well as downloadable newsletters.

The downloadable leaflet’s here, or you can request printed copies:

This is a good document, along with the ones listed in the article, to print out for those disbelieving friends who suffer from these health issues and laugh when we try to suggest to them to move their beds away from the wall behind the smart meter. Or give them the facts which they deny and would rather keep going to the doctor for more and more drugs.

Hopefully and prayerfully, this will help to awaken the sleeping masses!

Can someone tell me about the issue of WIFI’s in GROCERY STORES (the main store in my town has it) causing the precious fresh fruits and vegetables to start wilting much more quickly than otherwise would. (also seems a problem at this store in town); furthermore, I’ve been reading that foods absorb radiation so we bring it home and consume all of this! Please advise! Thanks so much.

  • Sharon said,

I have stetzer filters to limit our exposure to EMF, not because we are sensitive. I don’t want to become sensitive. I took Diane’s survey and have a comment about the last question. It seems to presume that the filters were installed due to sensitivity. I had to answer that I noticed no difference — which could indicate that they failed in my instance. But this is misleading because I had no symptoms before or after. I suggest that this must be taken into consideration when summarizing the results.

  • Lienke said,

Stetzer filters protect you from “dirty electricity”, the harmonics that come in through your electrical wiring. They do not protect you from the radiofrequencies and microwaves coming from wifi, smart meters, cordless phones, and cell towers. They also do not protect you from the radio/microwaves that come in through the electrical wiring which can function as an antenna as well.
People with EHS may differ initially in the spectrum of the electromagnetic frequencies that they react to. In the case of continued exposure their reaction may increase encompassing other ranges, much like “multiple chemical sensitivities”. The original exposure may be one chemical such as a gasoline spill and one may end up having sensitivities to everybody’s personal care products.
The trigger can be a cell phone, which I assume was the case of Lloyd’s sensitivities. Mine was (I think) living in a town home that had a magnetic frequency of 7 milligauss, but I did not measure any of the other potential problems such as RF/MW frequencies or dirty electricity. Now I react to all.
The fact that Lloyd got better means that I can get better too.

  • Marilyn Vandekieft said,

I have to differ with the very beginning of this report where it says that earth was created 4.5 billion years ago. Dr. Thomas Barnes, late emeritus professor of physics at the University of Texas, El Paso, performed the pioneering work on the classic geochronometer of earth’s magnetic field, in the ICR (Institute for Creation Research) monograph “Origin and Destiny of the Earth’s Magnetic Field” (2nd edition 1983). A great deal of new data has been gathered since Barnes’ work. The earth’s magnetic field has been measurably decaying over the last century. Its strength has declined by 7 percent since 1829, and this is exponential decay, telling us the strength was larger in the past and will be smaller in the future. The half-life of the field’s strength is 1400 years, implying that 1400 years from now the magnetic field will be one-half its present strength. Therefore, if you go back in time, only 100,000 years ago the magnetic field would have been incredibly strong, and the heat generated by resistance to the electrical currents in the molten core, would have made life impossible. And even 20,000 years ago, the heat would have disrupted the earth’s internal structure. (Information from “The Young Earth” by John Morris.)

After extensive study on this subject, I have to agree with those who have calculated the age of the earth to be approximately 6,000 years old.
