In a recent interview Lloyd mentioned that some Smart Meter are transmitting data over the power line rather than by Radio Frequency (ie microwaves). Well I’ve had one of these installed and it does not seem to be emitting any microwaves (which is good). The potential downside is the risk of contamination of the grid from the frequencies used, which could come into the Dirty Electricity range. The only negative impact I’ve noticed is occasional spikes in the DE readings on my Stetzer meter. The worst of these are filtered out by a DE Filter. So if you end up with one of these meters is it almost certainly safer than a RF meter, but not necessarily entirely innocent either. I’ve no idea whether they represent a similar fire hazard – their physical appearance is completely different. (Mine is actually across the road from the house so I’m less concerned).
