Grounding Small Appliances

Would it be possible to ground small appliances, that contain mostly plastic parts (like internet modems, routers, air filters, etc…) by inserting metallic parts (maybe a thin metal sheet, or wire) inside them and connecting these to the ground wire? How effective would that be against their emitted emf? Has anyone tested this already?
