It looks as though 5G will soon be upon us in the U.S.A. Does anyone know if there is a meter that will measure 28Ghz? My understanding (which is limited at this point) is that this frequency may be used with 5G.
I ran into this problem because I’m about to buy an RF meter, possibly this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acoust…..0732029771

However, I’d rather not buy something that will soon not be able to measure the upcoming frequencies. Any advice or ideas appreciated. Thanks!

Hi whirlwind, welcome to the forum. I’m not aware of any meters which measure millimetre waves, which 5G will be using. I did see a comment from Prof Trevor Marshall that he is developing one, but no indication of whether it will be available commercially, price, date etc. The meter you are looking at is the one I use, I find it’s very good. EMFields in the UK have a similar but simpler, and much cheaper RF meter, but that may not be convenient if you are in the US. There are also other meters discussed and reviewed on the main site here which might be more cost-effective. But I would certainly recommend the Acoustimeter for frequencies up to 8GHz (ie 1G-4G plus wifi, smart meters etc).
There’s an article on 5G explaining the technology and the frequencies it will use at http://spectrum.ieee.org/video…..w-about-5g and next week’s news bulletin (elsewhere on the forum) will feature some expert comments.

Hello Harlley and welcome to the forum. I’ve not heard any update on the meter situation for 5G. This is going to be a common request so hopefully someone will have something available in the not-too-distant future.
Lloyd seems to keep a close eye on meters so if something which looks useful does appear I expect there will be some info appearing on the main site.

I am more interested when the technology finally appears that will allow using the Internet anywhere in the world. If I’m not mistaken, Ilon Musk wants to launch satellites that will provide such Internet. Especially since the speed of technology development in international companies (Amazon, Google, https://www.atompark.com ec) It will be very soon
