‘Children whose mothers used cell phones during pregnancy had:
25% more emotional problems,
35% more hyperactivity,
49% more conduct problems and
34% more peer problems.’
Bio-Initiative report 2012
Pre-natal and childhood exposure features strongly this week.
More scientists questioning their own research on a very important issue. One wonders why….
Increased relative risk of 28%
Devra Davis pointed out in last week’s interview that the existence of pre-natal exposure effects is now beyond doubt.

Speech development delays. Screen time or radiation – or both? Increased relative risk of 49% per half hour of use(!)
Correlation does not necessarily imply causation, but these increases are not trivial numbers. Surely it would make sense to advocate a precautionary approach until the relationship is confirmed, or not. As always, ‘more research is needed’. So how many children will be irreparably damaged while we do nothing and wait?

More on Italian court cases
It’s slightly unclear (to me at least) from the reporting, whether there have been 2 cases recently. That would make a total of 3 in the past 5 years.

This study, on brain tumours in children, was highlighted by Devra Davis in her recent interview with Lloyd. ‘No problem’ – but look at the list of authors….
What they failed to report was…..
‘In fact all of the 13 ORs (odds ratios, or measure of risk) included showed an increased risk. It is very unclear as to why the authors did not mention this. One might consider them to be biassed for some reason.’ (Powerwatch)
‘The time-scales are far too short.’ (Powerwatch)
Lloyd Morgan was unimpressed too
‘Contrary to the commentary, this paper presents evidence for a shorter latency of brain cancer tied with cellphone use in children’
‘The statement in the Guest as JNCI Editorial, “Children and adolescents who use mobile phones are not at a statistically significant increased risk of brain cancer compared to their peers,” is a gross misrepresentation of what this paper actually reports.’
Once again history repeats itself – remember a similar issue with Interphone?
